Royal Caribbean vs Princess Cruises: Here's What You Need to Know

princess cruise versus royal caribbean

Through my writing, I hope to inspire others to travel and discover the beauty of our world. Parents can rest assured that their children are in good hands, as the kids clubs are supervised by trained and experienced staff members. Safety is a top priority, and the clubs provide a secure and nurturing environment for children to socialize and make new friends. Picture yourself relaxing on pristine beaches, surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters and swaying palm trees. I’m happy to have spent another fun-filled week in Alaska, and to have experienced the state’s majesty with my sister. Visiting Glacier Bay was nothing short of a wonderful experience and it's something that is unattainable on a Royal Caribbean cruise.

How Frequently Are Unvaccinated Passengers From Florida Required to Be Tested Throughout the Cruise?

The food experience on both cruise lines shares similarities, though there are some differences. As a guide, Princess is a better choice if you prefer sophistication, while Royal Caribbean tends to offer more variety for casual meals. There are several ships that sail from the UK, so British cruisers get lots of choice. Royal Caribbean has an edge in the Caribbean, while Princess is a top choice for Alaska and offers more itineraries in Asia, Australia & New Zealand and the South Pacific. Both offer a wide range of 7- to 10-night sailings in Europe from April through October, although Princess also offers longer 16- to 28-day itineraries in the region. Younger kids accompanied by parents can enjoy the Splashaway Bay aquapark, while those who are four feet or taller can brave the twists and turns of The Perfect Storm's waterslides.

Can you provide any information about the entertainment options on board Princess Cruises ships?

With attentive service and a menu that features a variety of gourmet dishes, formal dining restaurants provide a memorable culinary experience. From perfectly cooked steaks to delicate seafood creations, these restaurants ensure that every meal is a feast for the senses. In addition to fitness centers, many cruise ships also feature sports facilities such as basketball courts, tennis courts, and jogging tracks. These amenities provide opportunities for friendly competitions, allowing passengers to engage in their favorite sports activities while enjoying the breathtaking views of the open sea. There are many dining options to choose from onboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Princess Cruises provides amenities for smokers, vegans, and special diets, while Royal Caribbean has family-friendly cabins and activities for all ages.

Are There Any Exceptions to the Testing Requirement for Passengers on 5+ Night Cruises?

Like food, service is subjective, and one passenger’s experience could be different from another. It’s entirely possible we just encountered some crew members at a stressful time, and my experience should not be a reflection of the hard-working crew as a whole. I was neither impressed nor unimpressed with the service on my Princess cruise.

princess cruise versus royal caribbean

As someone who has cruised with both Princess and Royal Caribbean, I know first hand that both cruise lines have a lot to offer. Are you planning on booking a cruise and comparing Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean, to see which is best for you? Since they are both popular well-loved cruise lines, this is a great question. Princess’s fleet is smaller compared to Royal Caribbean, as the ships are designed for more intimate cruises. Royal Caribbean’s fleet consists of 27 ships, the most in the cruise industry. The nice thing about having this many ships is that you can find a cruise going to just about any port.

Royal Caribbean, on the other hand, tends to only offer chocolate and vanilla, and the ice cream station is only open for a short portion of the day. Food is, of course, subjective, but I found that overall, I preferred the food on Royal Caribbean over Princess. I enjoy the themed cuisine menus each night on Royal Caribbean’s Main Dining Room menu, and their buffet is the best I’ve tried on any cruise line thus far. Comparing Princess and Royal Caribbean can be a challenge, as they are very different. Where as Royal Caribbean is well known for its cool ships with lots of bells and whistles. The great thing about a Royal Caribbean ships is that there are a variety of different shows happening every evening.

Princess is the more traditional of the two, with a mellower vibe, fewer specialty restaurants and song-and-dance revue-style evening shows. Some ships have a few innovations including the SeaWalk, a see-through glass walkway that hangs off one side of the ship 16 decks above the water. Every ship has a splash pool for kids, and select ships have teen-only hot tubs.

You also will have an easier time finding a room since Royal Caribbean has the largest ships in the world. The best way to see which cruise line is the best for you and your budget is to look at the same itinerary with both cruise lines. Depending on the cruise, you may find that a Royal Caribbean cruise will be much more affordable than Princess, or vice versa.

Indeed, a lot of people believe that Princess offers the best pizza at sea from its casual pizzerias. Here’s a look at some of the more unique accommodation options on a Princess cruise. Some Princess cruises will visit Princess Cays, a private resort area on Eleuthera in the Bahamas. There are 16 ships currently sailing for Princess with one more being built, while Royal Caribbean has almost double that – 27 currently sailing, with three under construction.

Having been the first of the Royal Class vessels, the Royal Princess deck plan served as the blueprint for the rest of the ships in its class. Public spaces are grouped together on decks 5, 6, 7 and 16 to 19, whereas cabins take the rest of the decks. The only exception is Deck 16 (Lido), which is home to a few cabins along with the pool and a number of dining options. This layout packs together all the fun and keeps the vast majority of rooms away from noise at night. The cruise line’s newest ship, Icon of the Seas, will be even more family-friendly than any other Royal Caribbean ship yet.

For example, most cruises offer drink packages for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, but a few have drink stations where you can get complimentary lemonade, coffee and tea. Other amenities that might be important to you are Wi-Fi, spa services, babysitting, fitness classes, and upgraded dining experiences. You can usually get a decent discount if you sign up for an amenities package before you sail, so keep an eye out for promotions in the months leading up to your sailing. On the contrary, Royal Caribbean is known for its action-packed activities and high-energy entertainment.

Princess Cruises seamlessly combines elegance and modern comfort, offering a relaxing, upscale experience. Onboard the Majestic Princess, passengers can marvel at ocean vistas from unique glass walkways. Their exclusive retreat, Princess Cays, offers pristine beaches, water activities, and BBQ areas for ultimate relaxation. While Princess Cruises caters to those who prefer sophistication and calm, Royal Caribbean attracts those who love excitement and cutting-edge features. Both lines offer distinctive amenities, like hot tubs and sports courts, ensuring a memorable trip for every passenger, whether they want tranquility or thrills. Princess is known for its educational programs and children’s clubs, ideal for family learning.

Texas is famous for its slow-smoked meats, which are cooked over wood for hours to create a mouth-watering flavor. Many Texas cruises offer barbecue excursions, where guests can sample some of the best barbecue in the state. Visit well-known barbecue spots such as Franklin Barbecue in Austin, Lexington's Snow's BBQ, and Kreuz Market in Lockhart. The Seawall is generally a seven-to-ten-minute drive from the Port of Galveston, so you will need to take a taxi or rideshare if you plan to visit this area.

According to the Port's statistical data, Texas receives from cruise ship operations ~USD 1,42 billion per year (direct spending). However, much of this is used solely for cargo and commercial shipping. The cruise port has 2 terminals (Piers 23-28) with a third 10-acre cruise terminal due for completion late 2022. The new 161,300 square-foot terminal will cover 10 acres at Pier 10.

There are also more expensive lots that are covered and/or closer to the terminal. The ~USD 20 million project also included the restoration and extension of the roads in the Old Port Industrial and Wharf. A direct road connection to highway I-45 can divert most of the cruise-related vehicle traffic directly to the Port.
